Petition Text: Tell Commissioners Benton, Elliot and Johnson NOT to qualify this week to run for re-election:

Given the historic infrastructural failures, violations of public trust, audits, investigations of the Seminole County Inspector General, Joint Legislative Auditing Committee, Florida Auditor General and Governor’s Office Chief Inspector General, the residents of Winter Springs need new leadership and a better direction for Winter Springs.

Despite broken promises that fast tracked fixes will prevent future issues with our water infrastructure, just this month (August 2024) we experienced a massive spill of 383,000+ gallons and a second spill of 9,828 gallons of sludge.

Immediately following these massive spills, the city scheduled a presentation to address consumer confidence and our water system, without making mention of a historic failure just says prior, further eroding public trust.

Candidates and incumbents seeking re-election must formally qualify this week for re-election by Friday at noon. Given the track record of failure during their tenures, we urge Commissioners Benton, Elliot and Johnson to not qualify for re-election, and to dedicate the time and resources it takes to campaign for political office, to instead seek to work with the future leaders of our city to address our longstanding issues, for the health and safety of the environment and Winter Springs residents.
